Four photos from different CFC actions during European Mobility Week 2026

European Mobility Week took place on September 16th – 22nd. In the spirit of this year’s theme, “Mobility for Everyone”, we found ourselves in three separate locations in the capital:

📍 On Sunday, September 20, at Kotzia Square, with Athinas Street closed to traffic as part of Car-Free Day, we supported the activities organised by the City of Athens, for both children and adults. For “Bike Fun,” we created a small “city” spanning approximately 300 square meters, complete with traffic signs, allowing children aged 4 to 11 to practice cycling on the “road.” In a separate area, we set up a balance course for younger children (aged 2 to 4) using balance bikes. Elsewhere, we showcased some more… unusual uses for the bicycle: creating art at “Bike Art” and charging mobile phones at the “Cycling Charging Station.” Finally, at “Bike for All,” adults tried out e-bikes and cargo bikes, seeing first-hand that running errands or transporting children can be done without a car.

📍 On the same day, we set up a Kids Bike Park on the esplanade of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center as part of Green Weekend 2026. Children aged 5 to 11 had four zones at their disposal: a quiet practice area for beginners, a skills course with cones, a route featuring traffic signs, and, for the most advanced, a technical obstacle course with wooden ramps and a balance beam.

📍 On Monday, September 21, we were at the Kypseli Municipal Market for an event titled “Cycling for All Generations: Learn, Move, Share,” designed for both young and old. In the morning, we had a children’s bike course inside the market, complete with cones and traffic signs, hared the history of the bicycle with them, and taught them how to check their brakes and inflate their tires. In the afternoon, we held workshops for adults focusing on urban safety and choosing the best cycling routes.

We extend our warmest thanks to our partner organisations, our team for setting up and running the activities, and, above all, to all the children and adults who took part!
